Public transportation, overall, is poor. Hampton Roads Transit is the bus and light rail service which serves not only Virginia Beach, but also Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Hampton, and Newport News. The light rail is called the Tide, and it runs from downtown Norfolk to Virginia Beach Town Center. Although there are a lot of bus stops, they tend to be primarily on the main roads, and it can be hard to switch from an east-west line to a north-south line.
